Listen to Sharam's three-hour mix live from Sonic Soul Tribe at Burning Man 2019

EP103.jpg

"What you gonna play at Burning Man?"
That's the question I was asked by almost all my friends, and almost everyone had a strong opinion about it which kinda of threw me for a loop. Am I supposed to play what I always play or play something different? or a combination of both? Do I program it or just wing it?
Well, rather than over think it, I decided to wing it, like I've done all my DJ life (Never been the type to pre-program sets). Figured I'd let the vibe and the crowd inspire and dictate the course of the night, and what better setting than Burning Man, right? A place that oozes inspiration and since the amazing people at Sonic Soul Tribe provided me with a 3 hour time slot I decided to take people (and myself) on a journey.
I'm very happy to share with you 3 hours from a magical place in the middle of a neon desert.

You can be the judge.

Big thanks to #SonicSoulTribe for hosting me and my crew at their camp. We an amazing experience.
Also special thanks to #RootSociety where I played to another sureal and incredible venue a few nights later. I'll be sharing that set soon as well.

Sharam prepares to release "The Rain," a new collaboration with Bengle

Sharam ft. Bengle - The Rain.jpg

Real house heads will remember the days when it wasn’t uncommon for artists to make multiple mixes of the same track for their release, and every DJ who played the record had their favorite mix. This way of doing things has fallen to the wayside in the days of digital, perpetuated by a fear that “splitting sales” might hurt chart positions. Well, Sharam wants you to know that he doesn’t care, and his new single hearkens back to this sacred, old school tradition. “The Rain” is not just one amazing record – it is three. Each mix is inspired by a different city - New York, London, and Detroit.

The track features the vocals of Adam Englefield, aka Bengle, who crafted these beautiful, haunting lyrics specifically for Sharam's ever-so-meloncholic sound. As if it was needed, the release further displays Sharam’s versatility as a producer, pouring his talent into 3 distinct mixes, each with its own special flavor around the vocals as if three different artists remixed it.

We kick things off with the New York mix, which alone sounds like three unique mixes. It starts deep and ominous, then moves into a building section which captures your attention as it moves continuously upward toward the final section, a huge and impending drop which has had crowds going nuts for months. The climax in the New York mix cannot be understated, it’s an explosion of energy the likes of which only Sharam could conjure.

We move next to the London mix. With its more straight-ahead arrangement amidst alluring melodies and hypnotic elements, this one is more apt for bigger rooms and festivals, yet its consistently deep and keeps the eerie and memorable vibe of the vocals at the forefront.

Finally, the Detroit mix provides an option for those who like their records dirty and raw. Where the New York and London mixes are sleek and polished, the Detroit mix strips things down to its bare, groovy essentials. Its classic, Juno-inspired chords and 909 snare smacks wouldn’t sound out of place in a 90’s house mix out of Chicago, but Sharam seemingly got his inspiration from Detroit. You be the judge.

Altogether, the three distinct mixes come together to create a diverse and exciting body of work that is at once dark, deep, epic, and singularly Sharam. He and Bengle have proven themselves a dream team, gifting the world with this unique record.

Sharam Releases 'Lobi,' First Single of 2019

Anyone who has seen videos from Sharam's recent sets or listened to episodes of Yoshitoshi Radio of late is aware that the Yoshitoshi label boss is sitting on a treasure trove of new music. After wrapping up the Collecti chapter of his career with two ace remix packs in late 2018, Sharam is kicking off the new year with a release he has been teasing for months: 'Lobi.'

The track takes its name from the Lobi tribe of Eastern Africa, its core sample lifted from a unique tribal song which Sharam loops into an earworm hook. Underneath this bit of aural ecstasy, Sharam lays down a thumping bass groove with an almost Latin flare. His signature DnB style bass fills cut in and out before a wistful 303 riff and uplifting piano chords build to an astounding climax. It's this final drop that has had crowds all over the world going nuts during Sharam's peak moments. It's a perfect way to kick off what is sure to be a huge year for Sharam, with tons of new music and the beginning of the celebrations for Yoshitoshi's 25th anniversary.
